Pastor Steve Brooks

Message from Pastor, Steve Brooks . . . . .

Dear friends,

I have been reminded again lately how important it is for a Christian to have a solid, church home. I say solid because I believe that a church must first be a Bible-driven church. If it is not a Bible-driven church, then not only is it not solid, I don't even believe that it can be called a New Testament church. Why do I say this?

A solid church is a church that preaches the word of God without compromise. The word of God is profitable for "doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness" (2 Tim 3:16). It does not need to be diluted or watered down - it just needs to be preached! Solid churches preach the word, the whole word, and nothing but the word! The early church preached the truth, it got them into a lot of trouble, but they did not compromise the gospel.

A solid church is also a church where we are held accountable. If a church is a New Testament church, then we must hold each other responsible for our conduct and conversation. If we see one of our fellow members acting or talking in a way that is contrary to the scripture, we should go to them - always in love - but we should go to them and remind them of who they represent. By represent, I don't just mean the church, but also the head of the church - which is Christ. I believe solid churches do this. We find this example in the New Testament.

A solid church is one that offers encouragement. There should be no place that is more encouraging than a local New Testament assembly. The daily grind of life wears on even the strongest of believers. Our faith is often put to the test. So much that sometimes a Christian may be tempted to quit serving. When that happens, it is time for the church to step in with prayers and words of encouragement. We are, after all, part of a body that depends on other parts to function properly. I need you and you need me; that is that way God designed it, and that is the way we need to operate. In the book of Acts we are introduced to a man named Barnabas which means "son of encouragement." The early church had a literal "Barnabas" who went about living up to his name. The church of today needs people just like him. That includes me as well!

Let's all pray that we would be a solid, Bible-driven church. It is what God expects. It is what He deserves.

Love you folks, Steve
